This day started out with the intention to go straight to the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame but a few miles from the hotel I got sidetracked and hit my first National Park: Cuyahoga Valley National Park. I intended to just park the car and take a quick look but I ended up doing a quick mile hike and seeing ‘ice box cave’, which was quite cool - so cool it was actually about 20 degrees F cooler than the normal outside temperature. It was worth the walk and I got a few pics from it as well (along with some exercise).
After CVNP I headed to the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame where I got to see the Dylan exhibit. The exhibit was awesome and now I am thinking of going to Hibbing, Minnesota to check out where Dylan grew up. Not sure if I will do this or not but it could be interesting.
On my way from Cleveland to Chicago (where I am now) I took a brief detour through Michigan (which was quite nice - a lot of farmers growing corn and what not). I also stopped in South Bend, Indiana to check out the Notre Dame campus. The football stadium is huge and the campus was really impressive too. I can only imagine what Binghamton would have been like if we had a huge football stadium in the middle of campus. It would have been a nice replacement for the on campus pub that closed down.
Shoving off from South Bend, I got back on the highway and eventually made it to Evanston, Illinois which is just north of Chicago. My cousin and her husband have graciously agreed to put me up for the night so I will be happy to sleep in a bed for yet another night. In two days now I have driven over 1,000 miles and have been in seven different states: NY, NJ, PA, OH, MI, IN, IL. Many more states to go still.
Plans for tomorrow include going to Arlington Racetrack and also trying to fit in a sandwich at Al’s Beef. Also related to food is the fact that I was able to eat at my first Waffle House of the trip. A treat as always!
