Day 4 - 1st night of camping
So, today I did not quite make it to Duluth as originally planned.  I got a late start leaving Evanston and then got caught up in some traffic pretty soon after my departure.  When I finally got to Wisconsin I got sidelined by a big sign that read “CHEESE”. I quickly pulled off the highway to get some and soon discovered the smallest amount of cheese they sell is a half of a pound.  Normally not a problem but with virtually no refrigeration system I realized the cheese had to be eaten today (the cheese was just finished recently).  Anyway, I eventually got back on the highway but decided a few hours later that it was a night for camping (i.e. I didn’t feel like driving all the way to Duluth today).  So I’ve ended up in East Arbutus county park campground and have paid the whopping fee of $7.50 to camp for the night.  I also bought some firewood for $5 but only took about a quarter of what I was entitled to because I know there is no way I would be burning 40 logs in one night unless I stay up all night.
So I got my fire burning pretty good (after a while...) and attempted to toast some of those little pieces of bread that I picked up at the cheese place.  I whittled a stick down to a point on one end and slipped a piece of bread and cheese (there was still some left at that point) on it and held it over the flame.  The cheese never really melted like I wanted but the bread toasted up a bit. The first one was good but by the tenth I was only eating it because I did not want any of the precious cheese to go to waste.  Shortly thereafter I heard some rustling in the woods.  It sounded small so I knew it wasn’t a bear or anything.  I figured it was probably a raccoon or something similar.  I shined my flash light over in the direction of the noise and saw two eyes staring back at me.  I couldn’t make out anything of the animal except its eyes so I still don’t know what the heck it was.  I turned the flashlight off (because I didn’t want to look at the thing anymore) and got back to staring at my fire.  Nothing ever attacked me so I guess he went away (or passed out) eventually.
It doesn’t look like rain so I’m leaving the rain-fly off my tent for the night.  It if it does end up raining I guess I’ll save 50 cents because then I won’t need to use the pay showers here in the morn.  With the rain-fly off I can look up at the sky when I fall asleep; well those brief few seconds before I pass out anyway.

PS. I hope to get some of these pictures up soon but this web design program that I’m using is a little difficult to work with.  I’m trying to find a way to make it work so it makes it very easy for everyone to view them.
