Today I went to Arlington International Race Course, in Arlington, IL. I was able to use my owners pass to get in for free but that’s about as much money saving as I did all day. The track was really nice and it was pretty packed up with families spending their 4th betting on the horses. I guess here, unlike NY, you can go to the track without being considered a degenerate gambler. I didn’t see any of the hobo types we get at Aqueduct but maybe they were there in disguise, dressed up for the holiday. Anyway, it was a perfect day out which made the experience that much better.
At night, Lainie, Tim and I went to see a firework display being put on by Evanston. They were good and I was able to take a bunch of pictures. A little tricky capturing them but I think I got them pretty good. After that I went to a place called Buffalo Joe’s to get some wings. They were delicious and came with a huge portion of celery. I think there was more celery than wings. I finished the wings, of course, but lost interest on the celery and junked most of them. Maybe if they deep fried the celery it might have some kind of flavor.
Tomorrow’s plans are to go to Duluth, MN and then from there go to Hibbing, MN to see the town where Robert Zimmerman, aka Bob Dylan, grew up. I’ll spend the night here in Chicago and depart in the morning. Unfortunately I never got to Al’s Beef but I guess there are always casualties along the way somewhere.
