Day 5 part I - Duluth (1 day late)
I finally abandoned Eisenhower’s precious interstate highways today.  The interstates are quick but like Doobie says in Planes, Trains and Automobiles, “there ain’t nothing on the interstate but interstate”.  So I veered off 94 West to drive up north on 53.  This took me straight up to Duluth, where I sit now.  One interesting thing about the roadways in Wisconsin to note is that some of them are just named with letters, no numbers at all.  I was amused to see highway AA.  Highway Z was strange as well.  Who lives on highway Z anyway?
Anyway, I made it through to Duluth and with Emmy’s help on long distance city search I deemed the city worthy enough to stay in (i.e. it had more than 1 bar that appeared normal).  So I got a hotel room and will soon be heading out for a night on the town.  I of course got the closest hotel to the bars.  By the way the city does look nice along the shore of Lake Superior.  The weather was perfect again today so everyone was walking along the boardwalk admiring the views and getting exercise.  Now to see if there are any local foods of Duluth that I can try...
One more thing. Before getting on highway 94 this morning I stopped at some dive diner called Dee Dee’s Diner.  The special of the day was ham, egg and cheese on a croissant for $3.95 so I didn’t bother opening the menu.  It also came with a free orange juice served in a mason jar! The sandwich was greasy and excellent as expected.
