Day 33 - Sugar Creek Resort
Meghan and I went for breakfast at Lynn’s Paradise Cafe which happened to be featured on the Food Network tonight.  Inside they have tons of weird decorations which kind of reminded me of the pez museum in Easton, PA.  Check out the link above if you are curious as to which brand of craziness they use.  After breakfast we parted ways and I headed east toward Lexington.
Once I exited the highway at Lexington I headed south towards Nicholasville to find Sugar Creek Resort.  Back in St Louis, through some lucky coincidences, I found out that one of the members of this season’s dodgeball team was working at Sugar Creek Resort.  We had our first game last week (obviously I wasn’t there) and Dworkin told me that one of our new teammates, Brooke, was coming down here.  A great coincidence that I was planning on being in Lexington, I called Rob, our captain, and he gave me her contact info.  She said she could make some free time during the day and told me I was welcome to come.  So earlier today I arrived at the resort and met Brooke.  She was very nice and showed me around the place.  She also  introduced me to the eight horses they have and taught me a bunch on how to handle and groom the horses.  I was eager to learn and tried to soak up as much of the precious info as I could.  If nothing else I was sure that somehow getting to know these horses better could translate to improving my horse racing addiction.  Besides that though it was exciting and interesting to gain a small insight into how horses behave.  First of all there was a hiearchy amongst them.  Blue was at the top of the ladder and for instance if he wanted to drink water the other horses would get out of his way.  If Blue wasn’t around then one of the other horses was senior.  The other thing is that all the horses had a best friend that they would pair up with on trail rides and in general.  Two of the horses, Bill and Jim, where Belgian Draft horses and were enormous.  Bill was the biggest at 17.1 hands high but not only were they tall they were also wide.  We went for a ride in the evening and I rode Bill.  It felt like riding on top of a huge car.  Very smooth ride and very gentle creature.  The other great thing about being at the resort was that everyone was super nice from Brooke to Tommy (the owner) to Bobbie.  If anyone is ever in the area I highly suggest going.  The website is www.sugarcreekresort.com for anyone looking to get more info.  Overall it was a great time and I knew I would miss it as soon as I left.  Maybe I’ll get a chance to go back again but who knows.  After I left there I didn’t really feel like doing too much so I got a hotel room in Lexington and am taking it easy.  Since I’m so intrigued by these horses I am going to the Kentucky Horse Park tomorrow, which is right here in Lexington.  Brooke said she went and it was good so that’s all I needed to hear.  They also have some retired race horses and a Man O’ War memorial so it sounds great. Until tomorrow...
