Left Casper this morning and drove through to Denver. It seems pretty nice here so far and as luck would have it the Rockies were in town tonight so I went to catch the game. I bought a $9 seat and sat in the upper deck in right field. It was still a pretty good seat so I was happy. The Rockies were getting smoked in the beginning but slowly chipped away at the 8 runs that San Diego amassed. The bottom of the ninth came around to find the Rockies down 8 - 6. Some guy hit a two run dinger which put the thing into extra innings and then the Rockies went on to win it on a close play at the plate in the 10th or 11th. Oh yeah and the stadium is downtown which makes the commuting pretty easy. I made some friends at the game who were sitting next to me (well actually Stephanie started talking to me so I can’t really take credit for initiating the meeting) and went out to drink with them after the game. We went to the bar where most of them worked and got a shot of jagermeister and a PBR. Then we headed over to another bar called Benders which as it turned out was having a female arm wrestling competition. By the way, I think I was one of the only ones in the place who did not have a tattoo and/or piercing. The place was cool though and I enjoyed witnessing my first live arm wrestling tournament. Stephanie and Shane, who I met at the game (along with some other people whose names I never got) introduced me to a bunch of people so it was nice not to have to stand at the bar by myself. They also bought me a bunch of drinks so I am indebted to them for that as well. Some guy also came up to me and told me I was a spitting image of his brother so I took a picture with him. If I remember correctly his name was John and the young lady he was with was Tracy (sorry if I botched these up and also I have just fixed the link to the Denver pictures which was busted for the last 4 or 5 days). Eventually the place shut down and I walked home but not before getting some pizza on the way and giving a girl a brief history of the Velvet Underground (she had been handing out flyers advertising someone going under the name of Femme Fatale and I felt obliged to enlighten her). Also, the girl online in front of me at the pizza place was from Brooklyn, one of few New Yorkers I’ve met on my journey. Overall the night was fun, attributed mainly to the new people I met. By the way, if you’re looking for things to do in Denver when you die please check the recordings of the late great Warren Zevon.
