I left my dive hotel this morning and headed towards Dusty’s In -N- Out, a burger and shake joint. It was recommended in one of the books I have and I figured what better breakfast than a burger and shake. So I went in and ordered a double cheeseburger and blueberry shake. The burger was fantastic. I wish I was eating another one right now. The size of the patties were big (not like that McDonald’s crap) and the taste was amazing. Highly recommended if anyone is ever in Wenatchee. Oh yeah the shake and fries were very good too but after the burger I was pretty stuffed so I hate to admit that I could not (or did not want to) finish them. One other thing to note is that they did have a four patty burger - perhaps a challenge to return to one day.
So I left Dusty’s and tried to look for the Apple visitor’s center to get the dirt on this apple craze. I found it but it was closed so it was back to the road for me. Back on 2 I was once again confronted with excellent views. The road ran along side the Wenatchee River and I felt compelled to get out a take a closer look, as well as take some pictures. The weather was perfect again and I just wanted to jump in and float there. Between the water being freezing and the rapids I knew that wouldn’t happen though. So I hung around for a while taking in the scenery and then took off.
I passed through some ski town that looked like I was in Switzerland again. All the architecture and the surrounding mountains on both sides gave it that kind of feel. I didn’t stop but forged on ahead towards Seattle. I finally arrived in Seattle and headed towards the Space Needle. I went up and took in the views from up there to get a feel for the city. It definitely looked nice from up there with the water, mountains and city all within the same view. Next I met up with Bruno (friend from home) who took me around to see some Road Side Americaesque sites that he knew I would appreciate. We headed up to Freemont and saw the big Troll under the bridge. Oddly enough the troll is on Troll Street - who would have thought? Then we went and saw a big bronze statue of Lenin which was made by a Slovak artist in the late 70’s. Its for sale for $250,000 if anyone is interested in buying after looking at the photos. After that we had a few beers and parted ways. I started heading towards Olympic National Park, which I’ve heard is really nice, but I lost interest and ended up in a hotel on the outskirts of Seattle. The national park would have been a couple of extra hours driving and it was getting late so I scrapped the idea. I had some dinner at Jack in the Box (fast food restaurant not found on the east coast) and have pretty much called it day. Tomorrow I will head to the Experience Music Project to check out some rock ‘n’ roll stuff.
